Mike Karwoski begins his 15th year as part of the University of Notre Dame athletics administration. He was promoted to associate athletics director in February, 2005, following five years as an Assistant Athletics Director, five years as Director of Compliance, one year as the Assistant Director of Compliance and two years as an intern in the department.

In his role as Associate Athletics Director, Karwoski oversees the areas of NCAA Compliance and Student-Athlete Development/Welfare. As part of his compliance duties, he serves as liaison with the NCAA and Big East Conference as well as with the University's General Counsel Office, Faculty Board on Athletics, Undergraduate Admissions Office, Office of the Registrar, Office of Student Financial Aid, Academic Services for Student-Athletes and the Alumni Association. In the area of Student-Athlete Development/Welfare, Karwoski works with the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, First Year of Studies, Student Affairs/Residence Life, Undergraduate Admissions and special/talented students. In addition, he is involved with off-campus issues and student-athlete conduct. He also serves as the sport administrator for men's golf, women's lacrosse, men's and women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track, cheerleading and assists Athletic Director Kevin White with administration responsibilities for women's basketball.

Karwoski has served on various Big East sports committees, including the Women's Soccer Committee, Men's Soccer Committee and for the past three years the Men's and Women's Golf Committee. He also served as Tournament Director for the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Central Regional Championships hosted by the Warren Golf Course.

Following his graduation from Central Connecticut State University in 1990 with a degree in political science, Karwoski served as a committee clerk and legislative aid in the Connecticut General Assembly working on legislative policy for both the Education and Public Health Subcommittees. During his undergraduate years at CCSU, he was a member of both the baseball and soccer teams. During the 1991-92 academic year, Karwoski served as an athletics administrative assistant and graduate assistant soccer coach at Springfield College (MA) as he earned a master's of education degree with a concentration in sports management.

A native of Farmington, CT, Karwoski is married to the former Ann Niemier of South Bend, a senior staff assistant in the Notre Dame football office. They reside in Granger, Ind.
