Maureen McNamara is entering her fifth year as director of athletics community relations. In that role she works closely with senior associate athletic director for external affairs Bill Scholl.

The Peoria, Ill., native previously worked with the Notre Dame summer camp program and dealt with football corporate hospitality with NBC Sports and other clients as manager of camps and corporate events.

From 1990-97, McNamara was an assistant women's tennis coach at Notre Dame. During her tenure with the Irish, she picked up a master's degree in business from the University, graduating in 1996 with magna cum laude honors.

A 1984 graduate from the University of Illinois with a degree in business administration, McNamara played No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Illini from 1981-84, earning four letters. She was voted team MVP as a junior and senior and held the Illinois win record for both the men's and women's teams. In 1992, she was voted a member of the Tennis Team of the Decade at Illinois by Illini athletes from all sports.
