Fourth-year member of the Irish epee squad who has a strong chance at advancing to the 2001 NCAAs (March 22-25 in Kenosha, Wis.) ... heads into the Midwest Qualifier (March 10 in Detroit) as the region's fifth-seeded men's epeeist (Irish sophomore Jan Viviani is the top seed) ... pushed his career record to 56-18 after a pleasantly surprising 2001 regular season that included 40 wins in 55 bouts ... a lefthanded fencer with an unorthodox–yet effective– style ... makes up for his lack of experience with heady approach to his fencing, which can be a valuable component in epee competition ... one of the tallest fencers on the team (at 6-4) ... bounced back from a 4-6 start at the NYU Open by posting 29-3 record at next two tournaments in 2001 (14-1 at the Northwestern Open, 15-2 at the Notre Dame Open) before closing with a 7-6 mark at Duke Open ... won seven of eight bouts at Midwest Fencing Conference Team Championships, including three wins as Irish closed out Ohio State (5-2) in title matchup (beating Geoff Kane 5-1, Spencer Jones 5-1 and Alan Jones 5-2 in the clinching bout) ... placed ninth the next day in individual competition ... saw the most action of his first three seasons as a junior, when he won 11 of his 13 bouts ... compiled a 5-0 record in a reserve role during his first two seasons ... a two-time Dean’s List student at Notre Dame, with a 3.36 cumulative grade-point average as a chemical engineering major.
