Two Championship Coaches Added to Notre Dame Coaches Clinic

Mount Union's Larry Kehres and Grand Valley State's Chuck Martin named guest speakers

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Two college football coaches who have a combined winning percentage of .922 and have won 11 national championships between them have been added to the 2008 Notre Dame Football Coaches Clinic.

Mount Union head coach Larry Kehres (pronounced Care-Us) and Grand Valley State head coach Chuck Martin will appear as guest speakers at the Coaches Clinic on April 4-5. Specific dates and times will be determined later.

Kehres recently completed his 22nd year at the helm of the Purple Raider football team, and has built one of the most successful programs in all of college football. Under Kehres, the Raiders have won nine Division III National Championships in the last 15 years including back-to-back titles in '05 and '06 and claimed 18 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships while posting 16 undefeated regular seasons. Since 1990, the Raiders have made 17 playoff appearances while posting the most wins and best winning percentage in all of college football (230-11-1/ .953). Kehres has an overall career record at Mount Union of 260-21-3 (.921) including a career playoff record of 55-9 (.859).

Martin just concluded his fourth season at Grand Valley State and has quickly become one of the top coaches in Division II. He helped guide the Lakers to consecutive undefeated national championship seasons in '05 and '06 while earning the AFCA Division II Coach of the Year award both years. The 2007 season saw Grand Valley make NCAA Division II history by extending its winning streak to 35 games, passing the previous mark of 34 games held by Hillsdale College (1954-57). The NCAA Division II all-time longest win streak would extend to 40 consecutive games before ending in the national semifinal. Martin has won three straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference titles and owns a career record of 50-4 (.926) including a 12-2 ledger in the playoffs (.857).
