Talented Irish defender is considered the backbone of the Irish defense • ranks as one of the most talented defensive players in the program’s history and will be vying for top BIG EAST and national honors in 2001 • will serve as a tri-captain this season along with Griffin Howard and Greg Martin • a true backfield leader who has earned the respect of his teammates because he is so vocal on the field • plays with a great deal of confidence and has been impact player for the Irish in each of his two seasons • plays with a high level of intensity in both games and practices and helps initiate attack from the backfield • one of a couple players on the team with considerable international experience • underwent hernia surgery following the spring season, but is expected to be fully recovered before the start of the season.

AS A SOPHOMORE: Started all 17 games in 2000 • third team selection to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region squad • earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors for the weeks of Oct. 16 and 30 • named for the first time in his career after leading the Irish to 1-0 shutout of 10th-ranked St. John’s • selected for the second time two weeks later after helping the Irish post a 2-0 shutout of West Virginia • dished off two assists during the season with his first coming in the Rutgers game when he assisted on Erich Braun goal at the 43:14 mark of the contest, which tied the game at 1-1 • along with Reggie McKnight assisted on Justin Detter’s goal four minutes into the contest against the Mountainers • garnered top defensive player honors at the UNLV Fila/Snickers Rebel Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., after helping the Irish to two shutouts, a 2-0 win over New Mexico and 0-0 tie with UNLV.

AS A FRESHMAN: Played in 18 games and made starts in 17 of those contests • started the first 12 games of the season • did not start against Seton Hall because of a shoulder injury • scored his first collegiate goal which proved to be the gamewinner in 5-2 win over Eastern Michigan on an unassisted 30-yard blast from the right corner at 71:21 to put the Irish up 2-1 in the contest.

HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL DATA: Graduated from Olching Gymnasium and was considered on of the top Bavarian players • represented Bavaria in 1998 at the national team trials • played for S.V. Luhhof club team during the ’98 and ’99 seasons • led squad to the Bavarian championship in May 1999 which capped off a 23-5-6 record • scored a goal and dished off five assists throughout the season • defensive anchor of team which allowed just 23 goals in 34 contests and posted 12 shutouts • also played for the Furstenfeldbruck Youth Team for six seasons prior to playing for S.V. Luhhof and twice led that squad to Bavarian champion for the respective age group • named to the BIG EAST Academic All-Star team for the second consecutive following the 2000-01 • member of the Academic Honors Program which pairs gifted student-athletes with a faculty mentor at the University • has earned Dean’s List distinction all four semesters at Notre Dame • born Feb. 25, 1978 • enrolled in the College of Science with a double major in science and business.
