Notre Dame Men's Soccer Recognized For Academic Achievements
Jan. 20, 2000 NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and adidas have recognized the University of Notre Dame men's soccer team with the NSCAA/adidas College Team Academic Award for exceptional performance as a team as the Irish earned a 3.20 cumulative grade point average for the 1998-99 school year.
Notre Dame was one of Division I schools to register a 3.20 or better during the two semesters. Seven Irish players earned Dean's List honors following the '98 fall semester, while 12 were named to the Dean's List at the conclusion of the '99 spring term. One of its members, co-captain Phil Murphy, a 1999 graduate, was recognized as a first team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American for the Men's Spring At-Large Program. Murphy was the third men's soccer player in the program's history to earn all-america honors and the first first-team honoree.
Along with Notre Dame, the other schools to earn the award with a 3.00 or better were: Adelphi University, Brown University, Bucknell University, Davidson College, University of Dayton, Duquesne University, Hartwick College, University of Kentucky, Lafayette College, Marquette University, University of Richmond, Southwest Missouri State University, St. John's University, Stanford University and Western Kentucky University.
