Detter and Riley honored.

Notre Dame, Ind. - Notre Dame freshmen Justin Detter (White Lake, Mich.) and Chad Riley (Houston, Texas) were named to the BIG EAST Men's Soccer All-Rookie Team. The naming of Detter and Riley to the team marks the third straight year the Irish have had at least one player named to the league all-rookie squad.

Detter, a midfielder who started 16 of the team's 17 games, finished as the team's third-leading scorer with four goals and an assist for nine points in 2000. His four tied him for team-high honors with sophomore Erich Braun (Gerlinden, Germany) and senior Connor LaRose (Claremont, Calif.). Detter, who led the Irish with game-winning goals, had the first multiple goal of his career when he netted two goals and dished off two assists in Notre Dame 2-1 victory over Northwestern on October 3. His lone assist on the season was to Riley who had the game-winning goal in Notre Dame's 2-1 victory over St. John's.

Riley was the leading scorer for the Irish in 2000 as he netted three goals and dished off a team-high six assists. Also a 16-game starter, he provided the lone tally in Notre Dame upset of then 10th-ranked St. John's on October 14, marking the first win for the Irish over a top 10 opponent since the 1988 season. His team-high 12 points marks the third straight year a rookie has led the Irish in scoring Ñ Shane Walton (now a member of the Notre Dame football team was the leading scorer in 1998, while Braun, the '99 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, topped the scoring column last season.

Notre Dame finished the seaosn with a 7-8-2 mark overall and 4-7-0 record in league play.
