Former student manager Ken Haffey served two terms on the Monogram Club board ('97-'99, '00-'03) before assuming his current position as the organization's secretary. He has been a CPA and partner with Cleveland-based Skoda, Minotti & Reeves since 1994 and also has served as an adjunct professor of accounting at Case Western Reserve since 1990.
Haffey - originally from the Cleveland suburb of Gates Mills - graduated from Notre Dame in 1978 with a degree in accounting, after serving as the head football manager during the 1977 national championship season. He received a masters of business administration from DePaul University in 1983 and has been a CPA for 25-plus years, including eight total years with Ernst & Young ('78-'86, in Cleveland and Chicago), a stint as VP of mergers and acquisitions with Chicago-based Republic Bank ('86-'88) and six years as the bank CFO at Security Federal in Cleveland ('88-'94).
He worked as an auditor and senior consultant with Ernst & Whinney/Ernst & Young from '78-`84 (in both Cleveland and Chicago) before serving as assistant vice president of the First National Bank of Chicago ('84). Haffey then returned to Ernst & Whinney as a member of its bank consulting group in '85-'86. He also has served as an adjunct professor for three years at both Northwestern and DePaul, in addition to his recent teaching at Case Western.
Haffey was born March 18, 1956, in Cleveland and attended St. Joseph's High School, where he was the head manager and trainer for the football and men's basketball teams. He served as treasurer of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Cleveland from '92-'03 and has served on the boards of the Community Dialysis Center of Cleveland, Hillcrest YMCA and Catholic Charities of Cleveland.
He and his wife Elizabeth were married in Cleveland on Oct. 26, 1990. The couple resides in Chesterland, Ohio, with their daughter Oona (7, as of Jan. 1, 2005) and son Jack (6).
