Notre Dame, Ind. - After taking first and third in the varsity four race on Saturday, the Notre Dame varsity eights claimed the first three places against Kansas today on the waters of the St. Joseph River in overcast, but calm conditions.

Notre Dame's A boat of Cassie Markstahler (cox), Natalie Ladine, Ashlee Warren, Elizabeth Specht, Alice Bartek, Becky Luckett, Erica Drennen, Kerri Murphy and Kathleen Welsh were first in a time of 13:39.35, finishing ahead of Notre Dame's B boat by more than 12 seconds. The B boat of Kathryn Long (cox), Kati Sedun, Ann Marie Dillhoff, Casey Buckstaff, Meghan Boyle, Diane Price, Meredith Thornburgh, Katie Chenowith and Sarah Keefer was second in 13:51.91.

The Irish took the top three places as the C boat of Maureen Gibbons (cox), Kristin Mizzi, Shannon Mohan, Melissa Felker, Christy Donnelly, Danielle Stealy, Jenna Froberg, Sarah Palandech and Megan Sanders pulled a major upset by defeating Kansas' A boat. Notre Dame C finished in 14:04.08, defeating Kansas A by over 17 seconds. Kansas A crossed the line in 14:21.74.

Kansas B was fifth in 14:33 .07, while the Notre Dame D boat of Caitlin Rackish (cox), Katie O'Hara, Alicia Garcia, Katherine McCalden, Kristin Henkel, Antoinette Duck, Fallon Shields, Rachel Polinski and Devon Hegeman was sixth in 14:48.78. The Notre Dame E crew of Becky Campbell (cox), Ann Mulligan, Tricia David, Andrea Amoni, Tori Blainey, Corrine Roman, Jennifer Connelly, Kristen Wright and Beth Franzosa rounded out the race in 15:14.52.

Notre Dame takes to the water again next weekend as it travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Head of the Ohio.
